Fault find exercises are in vain...its just destiny/fate... the way things are meant to be.
I was so looking forward to a hassle free weekend with heartman...not meant to be...
Heck, what was meant to be was some amazing movie watching, I mean if there is anything that came out of it all...its watching some great acting by some very very talented auteur's and thespians.
More on those soon.
The one thing I realized about me in particular is that when I have fatigue piled up...pretty much every else at my home usually is....i mean i have this "ability" to completely junk up everything in sight. Well done closets, shelves...look like war zone, everything is pretty much every where...all piled up. I drive myself up the wall at times.
OK, here are the movie reviews....
Broken Flowers :
I've liked Bill Murray's comic style...his evolved and quiet comic timing is usually very touching and gets the right nerve for me.
Broken Flowers simply reiterates this fact. Its a movie about stasis, being lost and questioning love. Bill Murray plays Don Johnston ( yeah...the name is kinda catching and gives you the mental make up of the real McCoy! ) an ageing Don Juan who is pretty smug ( or just irreverent??) about his flings...he moves on from relationship to relationship...till of course he gets a letter suggesting that a son he fathered 20 years ago, is on now on a road trip...looking for him.
Hmmm ...this revelation ( via mail on a pink paper in red ink) gets him physically moving , courtesy his neighbour a moonlighting detective.
Don goes about the country trying to figure out the truth...vising his past flames...does he find answers??... well...well..well..that is what the movie ultimately is all about.
I highly recommend the movie...watch it on one of those quiet days when you could do with some thinking.
7/10 for me.
The Great Buck Howard :
Another one my favourite artists and he does not fail : John Malkovich.
The movie is essentially inspired by the career of the Amazing Kreskin, a mentalist ( mind reader). Who I admit, I had no clue of till i googled him. But I really didn't need to know that to enjoy the movie and appreciate Malkovich's talent.
Malkovich plays The Great Howard Buck...a past star on a comeback. He is eccentric, interesting and longing for public adulation. Colin Hanks ( son of Tom Hanks) plays his road manager ( very well executed) who takes you thru the mentalists failures and tribulations....
This movie is a treat for those looking for acting prowess and the characters are so very likable.
7.5/10 for me.
Coraline :
I'm not so sure if this is a kiddie toon...but what it is a visual treat...its dark and colourful at the same time. It plays up to a lot our views when we are growing about how our lives sucked and how we longed for the complete opposite of what we had ...especially parents. Remember all the nagging and rules and "do this" ,"do that"...mommy/daddy never having time when you needed it...and of course the feelings of lonliness.
This movie completely plays up that alley and I admit it drives home a good point. Based on Neil Gaiman's book ( and once you know that fact, you realize how this fantasy is going)...the movie highlights a parallel world where Coraline slips into and meets her "other mother" and "other father". What initially appears as a wonderful world...goes on to become a nightmare when she is asked to become one of the others ( i.e like stuffed dolls with button eyes...which will be sowed into her with real real ones picked out...uggggh!!! ).
So...all is not what it seems..as the facade of the "other world" starts to crumble.
Slowly but surely...Coraline realizes, fights for what best for her...
Coraline voiced by Dakota Fanning...portrays a very real and intelligent girl.
Gotta watch it. 8/10
17 Again
Zac Efron...Zac Efron...Zac Efron...wow!!
That Hair...That Smile...Those Brows...That Californian Complexion...Gimme more!!!
Ok...now that Ive stopped palpitating...he also has good acting talent :D
