An ongoing poll is trying to gauge the most influential year of all time...in the reckoning with thus far the highest votes is 1439- the year of Gutenberg's Press.
The written word has been the most influential...nothing ever just said or talked about has really survived...what has, is print...passed down from generation to generation since, with the power of of-course-- recourse.
But is the western centric theme for press...aptly makes it the most important year?? maybe not...words were written down as early as Mesopotamia, Ancient India, Egypt.
I guess probably one of the most important themes has been the " written word"...the date can be debatable.
