I just saw this amazing movie : Harishchandrachi Factory...and what a pleasure to watch it was.
I am impressed, And I am broadly always impressed with Marathi plays and the movies lately...and this one was a particular gem.
It is supposedly one of the most expensive Marathi movies ever made ( at a Rs. 4Cr budget )
Much credit must be given to the director who so wonderfully made it entertaining to watch The Pioneer ...initiate an industry which is so huge today compared to many standards worldwide. The movie was bought about in comedic vein the initial strife and struggles of a truly amazing man, never romanticizing or over mooning or even eulogizing about it in anyway.
One clearly recognizes the challenges faced ( its is for the viewer to perceive many things - as is the movies undercurrent ) and does empathize with the protagonist...but the story in itself is well addressed and in a manner that is so charming...and does not fail to make you both laugh and think of how it all began. Yes charming is a word for this one.
As is the case with most inventions or attempts at new endeavors ...curiosity plays such a vital role...the yearning to know and desire to accomplish. This facet too is well displayed... thru many hillarious situations.
I especially loved the take on not simply patronizing and making a larger than life drama of this theme...which it could have easily become if the director had given way to sentimentality.
The protagonist triumph is a common mans triumph...it realistic...rationalistic ...and many times...hilarious ...just the way it can be in our normal lives.
The movie...incase you are trying to still guess is about Dadasaheb Phalke.
This is an 8/10 for me... a must watch for sure.
