I saw Tahaan over the week end…it’s a story close to me and Heartman…especially since he comes from there abouts. Apart from the touching story of a boy and his quest to keep Birbal-his donkey…it highlights the truth of everyday existence of the people from the valley. Its pace…is a justified attempt to experience the life from their eyes. Often thru the movie’s pace you feel sad for what’s happening in Kashmir and people’s struggles…the curfews, terrorists...the constant fear.
There are quite a few scenes which stand out-  where kids play “terrorist –police” a take on the “chor –police” and then the scene where  a visitor ( another Indian) …visiting Kashmir…looks at Tahaan and remarks “ o a cute kashmiri kid “ and asks him to pose for a pix…the part where Tahaan’s mother is called to inspect some dead bodies to confirm if any of them is her missing husband… I could just go on…

Of the cast …Purav Bhandare is amazing in the lead role of the boy Tahaan….innocent but not overtly so.  He handles every scene with immense maturity and is so very believable. Sarika as his mute mother , Haba…has essayed the role with poise…emoting via expressions... she remains beautiful as always.
Victor Banerjee is very lovable as Tahaan’s grandfather.

Much of what has been achieved in the movie has to be credited to Santosh Sivan’s cinematography, direction and story telling…which all together in one word is stunning
I also liked Taufiq Qureshi’s music.

I think this is a must see for sure. It’s a 7/10 for me .

I also saw What Happens in Vegas...but i'm not saying much abt this one for sure !
