For one thing... I was glad I came home much earlier than I had expected on Friday and got the chance to doze off the "immense" fatigue. Which is important, considering that I seriously needed too be in a good mood to have any decent conversation with Heartman. Hmm, and most importantly, I really needed to forget the Papa John's Pizza I gobbled up ...it was not bad...it was awesome...much better than the usual crap ...but 3 "loaded" slices was the fact I needed to put thru amnesia. Sleep was my last resort.
When I did get up... finally...Heartman thought it would be nice to take me to the movies...and that's how and why I came to see Billu ( it's rechristened now to Billu sans the Barber bit)
I think I liked the movie , its got its heart in the right place. A simple story about Billu, a barber. He is poor but smiles thru it all and when his little village learns of his friendship with the super star Sahir Khan...all hell breaks loose for our man.
What stood out for me was Billu... a role essayed by Irrfan Khan. He was awesome, every bit of his smart repartee... his dealings with the local lot, his children and his wife ( played by Lara Dutta)...sweet! Shahrukh, playing himself ( well almost : ) ) is nice, but I guess he is a bit overshot thru this movie.

I think, its a sort of a situation we can understand ...remember ...Krishna/ Sudama of our mythical stories??...not quite that to the T, but along the lines.
The cinematography has to be praised...the visuals are amazing...the movie ...it worked for me for sure, though on the critical side, I do wish the movie did spend a lil more time on Billu's life and a lil less focus on Shahrukh.

One of my favourite hilarious moments was how the hotel manager who aspires for a role in Sahir Khan's movie is given a go...and how he completely fumbles over and over again, has the viewer in complete splits.
Of course there are many emotional moments, effectively executed by Irrfan and Lara...but those I will leave you to watch.
I would recommend this one as nice change from all the reality bits doing rounds now a days.
Watch it...especially for Irrfan Khan.
This is a 6/10 for me.
