Classics and Basics

Jan 3, 2014

Ok…my first resolution…I have to keep some distance between my “other” significant other...aka Rohinee’s iPad. It is way to addictive…and more than anything, I need some “internet” detox. Got to get back to reading good old hardback and do things in the good old ways …and that I would like to say for many things ..be it :

food : slow, wholesome, organic, freshly made…nothing in a can :D ) ,

beauty and style   : back to gran ma type oils, and homemade washes and scrubs…basically the works with zero or very minimal chemical elements) and clothes that reflect personality and not an image

lifestyle : minimalistic, simple, less pretentious

thoughts : practical, realistically-optimistic and most importantly “good”

but you get the picture right ? It’s the “classics”  and the “basics” . Those work...always.

But, when I say classic and basic…these connote things deeper too…

I have been ruminating on the concept of happiness for a while and, like many have deduced and will deduce…its a very individualistic approach. But broadly it boils down to a frame of mind…if one can remain objective about things and not ruminate much.

The greater demon for me has always been keeping “expectations” and a constant failure on my part to “let go”…and it’s a unique challenge.  How strongly we feel about things complexes and adds multiple levels of subjectivity to every rational thought- in my view. In the “Classic and Basic “version of Life, one does not “think” too much, and takes every day as it comes.

So how easy is that?

It’s as easy as your mind and your heart would allow it to be, I would guess…but then I do think, it’s also a matter of wiring…if you are programmed to be “complex”…demystifying and detangling of your belief’s is an arduous process…it’s akin to changing your entire operating platform …except not as easy … but if you are “ Classic and Basic” that is never really an issue. I often envy those who are wired to be “Classic and Basic”…like my parents. They keep doing their part, keep being who they are…honest, hardworking, gentle and upright folks with absolutely no desires to get into a mold that does not fit...and absolutely no emotional complexities .

If only I could be like them…if only I could have listened when I was younger and malleable . But miracles happen…and you can find strength within yourself to bring about a change…after all...”Classics and Basics” never go out of fashion…so why would anyone want to be out of vogue on that one ?
