sometimes you don't need gimmickry or technical prowess to make a point.
sometimes simple things are most heartfelt.
I like the allusion of the name and movie...pretty much sums up the politic of Iran.
But its Marjane Satrapi's emotional connect that comes out the strongest...
its a coming of age "art-house animation" story of a girl born into a progressive Iranian family, its has subtle feminist overtones ( the kind that one can relate to), and is enlightening.
its warm and fierce and vivid and intimate at times.

i could so relate to the precocious little kid that Marjane is in the movie...with black market purchase of Iron Maiden, listening to Abba and Bee Gees
and then Eye of the Tiger...bam!bam!bam!bam!...the song that stirs her back from depression!
( lyrics suck...but the music makes you wanna get up and get punching :) )

her conversations with God and Karl Marx...are some of the poignant moments.

and there is more...sometimes...the movie seems like your own personal journey...

But it is Marjane's and she is one of life true Heroine.

The Movie-like Maus ( read this one) and Ive heard it also like Palestine (not seen )...stands out.
this is 8.5/10 for me and a must watch.
