The  problem with most Indian movies is that they tend to pack in too many emotions and want to overwhelm you…almost to the point of being submerged…and  that takes away the high, rush or excitement you many feel for a theme.  Subtly done -"other" emotions apart from key concept are all right, but a collage of feelings…is getting you no where.
And, that is just one of my paramount problems with "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai".

My other issue is it being all style and little lesser substance….I mean there is no point in getting my attention with an attractive package if you are going to disappoint me with contents…. -I am eventually going to get disappointed. So,sure Mumbai, was a grim place in the 70's/ 80's…but I din't quite perceive that thru the movie…didn't feel the edginess, or the nerves watching the rise and fall of a Robin Hood gangsta or the rise and rise of a brazen, notorious don. Nothing here really awed me to be honest, nothing seemed new in conceptual treatment…where the police were meek or colluding and criminals were the real rockstars!! Heck noway! Done to death here.

On the histrionics front, only two names stood out – Ajay Devgn and Randeep Hooda, who are in good form…others felt uncomfortable or struggling in their respective roles.
I'm not sure wot to make of in-between movies : am I supposed to get caught up in the sentimental emotions between the lovers ? delve in the troubled era? or be caught up in clever tricks of the mobsters ? Truth is, I felt glossed over.
I don't have a penchant for confusion for sure…but, nonetheless this probably felt a like a better movie from the stuff Bollywood has been doling out so far this year.

Worth a watch once, if you have particularly no choice or are a fan of Devgn, who is nice to watch, or Hooda who is being good in the art and easy on the eye.

5.5/10 for me here. ( mostly for the two guys)
